The sequel, Kushiel's Chosen, opens with Phedre having been made a noblewoman by the new Queen, and with Melisande still at large and very likely scheming anew against the realm. It was a rip roaring good time. The heroine of the first trilogy is Kushiel's "chosen" and gets off sexually on being tortured, humiliated, etc. I think it is the most straight up adventure story of the series and was a lot of fun to read. It is an excellent book that will only leave readers wanting more. That is, I read most of it during the trip but completed it this weekend. In her first trilogy, protagonist Phèdre was the ultimate submissive/masochist, chosen of Kushiel, anguisette, etc. Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey overflows with complex characters, a twisting plot, love, hate, joy and tragedy. A description of tropes appearing in Kushiels Legacy. Kushiel's Legacy also plays with the spymaster-apprentice relationship in some lovely erotic ways. The third book that I read on my vacation journey was Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Chosen. This book is about shooting sacred cows. The sequel to Kushiel's Dart gets another five stars from me. Kushiel's Chosen is the second book in the Kushiel's Legacy trilogy by Jacqueline Carey.
